SPSP Research Activities
ARM research locations - North Slope of Alaska/Adjacent Arctic Ocean Site.
Arctic and Antarctic Research Center at Scripps Institution of Oceanography TeraScan project (AARC)Dan Lubin is team leader for this project. The AARC is funded to archive and distribute all NOAA and DMSP (Defense Meteorological Satellite Program) data collected south of 60 degrees. The data from polar orbiting satellites are collected by ground stations at McMurdo and Palmer Stations aboard the RV/IB Nathaniel B. Palmer. It is distributed by ARCC to the scientific community and to support contractor meteorologists for forecasting. Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) ProgramDan Lubin is working with DOE scientist Andrew Vogelmann on a project to investigate the direct and indirect aerosol radiative effects on Arctic climate. Using the ARM program's Atmospheric Emitted Radiation Interferometer (AERI) at the North Slope of Alaska, this research is investigating fundamental cloud microphysical properties as the respond to the presence of anthropogenic aerosol.
